In this paper, we propose the theoretical method for determining the dielectric characteristics of liquid crystals. We used a microstrip device for the measurement of dielectric characteristics of three LCs, QYPDLC-7, K15, and MJ98834 in a broadband microwave. Many attempts have been made to determine the dielectric characteristics of liquid crystals or other anisotropic materials, however, they were almost depended a lot on simulation or numerical calculation. A theoretical calculation method to obtain dielectric characteristics tensor components is suggested in this paper. We verified the theoretical calculation method by comparing the obtained dielectric characteristics with other researcher’s computer program calculated results. Unlike conventional methods to find tensor components obtained complexly or by computer calculation, we introduce a novel method to achieve the same result by solving simple simultaneous equations substituted for measurement results.
