In general, the dynamic behavior of a material is significantly different from the state in which a static or quasi-static load is applied. Under extreme load conditions in a short duration such as impact or explosion, the dynamic properties of the material should be taken into consideration to predict the behavior of the structure. In this study, the impact responses of structures are evaluated theoretically and numerically, and the efficiency and accuracy of the solution are verified through the comparison with impact tests. Two types of structures are selected as the target structures. The impact response of plates using 7075-T651 aluminum is simulated, and the impact resistance performance of the SC composite wall is evaluated. For the impact analysis of the aluminum plate, this study proposes the damage models to minimize the mesh dependency under the high strain rate conditions and develops a user-defined material model combined with the Johnson-Cook constitutive relationship. Also, the design criterion considering the effects of the front steel plate of the SC composite wall is proposed, and the accuracy is verified through comparison with the experimental and numerical results. As a result, this study presents numerical and theoretical methods for evaluating the impact response of various structures and verifies the efficiency and accuracy.
