This research proposes a systematic classification methodology to label and classify digital games, a large-scale database about classified digital games, and a design methodology for virtual environments in digital games. The proposed classification methodology classifies digital games with a combination of 16 variables in five standards. With the classification methodology, a total of 7407 digital games have been classified across PC and console platforms and have been constituted into a database. By analyzing the database, I calculated 100 types of unpublished new types of digital games and I analyzed the pattern of the digital game market until 2017. The proposed design methodology is layer-based, according to the proposed classification. A game designer classifies the type of game he or she wants to develop, creates a PAM (Player Activity Map), design, and overlays the required layers in order to create a master plan. The validation experiment of the proposed design methodology demonstrated that it reduces the irrelevant time taken during the design process from 14.59% to 0.33%. Moreover, the design methodology has increased the conceived cooperation level among the designers by 300\% and considerably improved the qualitative satisfaction of the finished design.
