dc.description.abstractAn aritificial wastewater treated with two different methods ; a conventional continuous process and a sequencing batch process. The sequencing batch process composed of five sequencial periods; filling, aerobic reaction, anaerobic reaction, settling, and drawing periods. The sequencing batch process could remove 93\% of initial nitrogen, whereas only 65\% of nitrogen could be removed by the continuous process. When ammonia was sole nitrogen source in the influent wastewater, the ammonia initially converted to nitrate during the fill and aerobic reaction periods, when oxygen was supplied. And the nitrate finally was reduced during anaerobic reaction period. The sequencing batch treated wastewater showed excellent settling characteristic and more stability against high organic loading shock compared to the continuous or batch operations was also confirmed. Temperature also affected on efficiency of waste treatment with sequencing batch process. Consequently, the sequencing batch process was proved as a good tool for the treatment of wastewaters having high nitrogen contents.eng
