The aluminum-water reaction in alkaline solution is a promising method for hydrogen generation. In this thesis, we show that rate of the aluminum-water reaction can be detected by a Schottky nanodiode sensor which based on a metal-semiconductor contact. Current signal of Schottky nanodiode has two polarities, negative current signal originated from the adsorption of hydroxide ions on the surface of Schottky nanodiode and positive current signal comes from the charge transfer during the aluminum-water reaction. Current signal originated from the reaction is proportional to rate of the aluminum-water reaction. Here, we discuss the possibility of using Schottky nanodiode as a real-time sensor for the aluminum-water reaction in alkaline solution.
