Automotive industry has been steadily growing for last 3 decades, and is a promising field to be one of the core technologies in the future. Recently, lots of automotive components have been replaced with electrical devices, as seeking a higher competitiveness in aspects of manufacturing rate, cost, and weight. Especially, rotary position sensors became one of the most valuable components when it comes to their wide-open applications such as pedals, levers, steering devices. Rotary position sensors nowadays tend to avoid a contact between stator and rotor so that they can be immune to being worn out. Meanwhile, rotary position sensors seek to achieve lighter weight, higher resolution, and stronger robustness to environments. In this thesis, analysis of various rotary position sensors is to be addressed in their principles and characteristics, and a new rotary position sensing technique will be devised. One of main blocks in driver circuit is auto-calibrating quadrature oscillator.
