We investigate the impact of CEO characteristics on asymmetric cost behaviors. Asymmetric cost behavior (Cost stickiness) is a decision of delaying cost reduction responding to sales decrease until demand uncertainty being resolved, and we proxy CEO characteristics with gender, age, and tenure. We find that female CEOs are less cost sticky than male CEOs. We also find that older CEOs are less cost sticky than younger CEOs. Lastly, we find that longer-tenured CEOs are more cost sticky than shorter-tenured CEOs. Our results remain unchanged after controlling the influence of the board of directors. Overall, we find the impact of CEO characteristics in terms of risk-taking to the degree of cost stickiness.-
