While existing user authentication methods such as passwords, one-time passwords (OTP) or fingerprint have potential threats of data leakage, verification based on EEG is free from data breach or duplication since it is hard to mimic by an adversary. In this research, the difference of brain signals between when the subjects see unfamiliar photos and when they see the photos they already knew are used to distinguish the each user. As a set of known photos, publicly posted photos on each user's SNS are used. To make affordable and practical authentication device, an open-source hardware based on Arduino is used. By doing this, this brain authentication method can achieve both personalization and practicality.
