The transmission of 10Gbit/s vestigial-side-band (VSB) signals over 177km of conventional singlemode fibre is demonstrated. The dispersion penalty was measured to be < 3dB. The simulation analysis shows that the small dispersion penalty comes from the combination of reduced spectral width of the VSB signal and the negative dispersion of the VSB filter.
