Since ship is a large and expensive product, its maneuverability and cruising performance should be predicted before its construction. After building a ship, it is almost impossible to change its major design parameters. However, predicting the performance of the actual vessel is not easy because of its size and the limitations of water tank facilities. Also in case of model test using water tank facilities, it includes scale effects. In company with computer development, Computational fluid dynamics has developed. Although other fields use this method variously, there are many difficulty in ocean field. To overcome this reality and attain more correct result about maneuverability coefficients, water tank facilities are depicted by computational fluid dynamics. In this paper especially planar motion mechanism is used and hydrodynamic derivatives were attained directly by simulating fluid dynamics. And then Using other other experiment result about KRISO container ship(KCS), hydrodynamic derivatives were compared. Through this research, possibility and advantage of CFD are considered.
