dc.description.abstract | The intention of this thesis is to give an overview of the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) establishment as a part of the Sri Lanka electronic National Identity (eNID) card system. It primarily shows the operational model of the PKI implementation with e-government initiatives stakeholders in the country that is intended to integrate the Sri Lanka government identity management infrastructure. The Sri Lanka eNID card management system strategy aims to harmonize the various e-government projects. It will build up trust on security of online transactions. By this project day today general public life events and work make easy electronically in the internet digital age. This program aims to facilitate the integration of various e-government applications in to the eNID. Biometric smart card with PKI would enable e-government services to become closer to the population by maintaining privacy. According to the study, the world trend is to use these two technologies to facilitate whole e-government and private businesses work under one umbrella to improve social and economic life. Sri Lankan citizens also will benefit as shown above by this initiation. It also shows the agreed structure of the major components in relation to key players that are represented by Sri Lankan central government, Provincial government, Local government and e-government authorities, financial banks & institutions, and other organizations in both public and private sectors. The digital laws and policies will increase trust in the other party online necessary, but not in the standard it required for website consumers to form self confidence on the internet. The general public does not believe that the technology applied by the website security is in standard quality of service.
