The electrical, thermodynamic and chemical properties of silver crystals strongly depend on their size and shape. Therefore it is important to control their size and shape. Among the many methods which can synthesize silver nanocrystals, polyol process comes into the spotlight due to its economic efficiency and variety of the synthesized particles. In this thesis, not only a modified method for synthesis silver nanocrystals as desired, a novel method to produce silver nanocrystals embedded metal organic frameworks (MOFs) a novel class of hybrid material consisting of metal ions coordinated to organic molecules also proposed. Furthermore, new application to various field with synthesized nanocrystals are also studied. In chapter 2, it is possible to simply control the size of silver nanocrystals by tuning the viscosity of the reaction medium. For perpetration of low reflection coating material, sub- 100nm hollow silica nanoparticles, silver nanocrystals with 30nm diameter are synthesized by using higher viscous medium than traditional one. And finally, the coated low reflection layer from the hollow silica nanoparticles on polyester (PET) film can greatly reduce the reflection of the PET film from 10 % to 2 % over the entire visible region. In chapter 3, a new method for fabrication of transparent electrode which is using silver nanocrystals and micro patterned structure is presented. By array of silver nanocrystals on micro-pattered substrates, final structure which has 70% of transmittance could be obtained. It is very cost-effective because it does not need any special process or equipment such as deposition of vacuum. In chapter 4, silver nanoparticles embedded needle-like particles were synthesized by introduction melamine to polyol synthesis. Some organic materials are formed MOFs with metal ion such as silver.
