The pressure gradient developed across the diameter of a 1 tube formed into a centrifugal flow-loop 10 in diameter was not sensitive to changes in the consistency of paper pulp up to 1gm per 100ml of suspension. Thus such a device can serve as a columetric flow rate sensor of dilute suspensions. The pressure gradient across a straight section of 2/3 PVC pipe was found to decrease as the pulp content increased. A relation vetween pressure gradient and consistency was developed from which concentrations of high bright bleach pulp suspensions in the range from 0.5 to 1.1gm per 100ml can ve predicted within about 10%. The possibility of controlling cosistency with this method of detection is suggested.
