It is well known that a stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) wave undergoes deformation of its temporal waveform when the pulse is reflected from the SBS medium. A prepulse injection method is a promising technique that is used to preserve temporal pulse shape of a SBS wave by injecting the prepulse before the main pulse enters the SBS interaction region. In earlier research, it was reported that with a prepulse energy of 5 mJ and a delay time of 5 ns, the pulse shape is perfectly preserved. In this research, the prepulse energy required for waveform preservation according to the delay time was investigated experimentally, and the results are explained using a simple theoretical model.
