It is essential that the force ripple should be eliminated in iron core type linear motor to achieve high precision tracking performance. The current-dependent force ripple is influenced by the friction force or load of the mover. It is difficult to compensate the current-dependent force ripple using only feedforward controller based on a model. However, the proposed hybrid controller could compensate the force ripple even though the variation of input current existed in linear motor. The hybrid controller consists of the PID controller with feedforward controller, and the RLSE (Recursive Least Square Estimation) adaptive controller. In this paper, the hybrid controller was verified by the experiments that performed using the comparison with normal PID and feedforward controller. © 2012 American Scientific Publishers.
