Soil contamination by diesel oil raises a serious environmental threat. Diesel oil is the complex mixture composed of straight and branched alkanes, cycloalkanes, monoaromatics, and polyaromatics. Although the content of polyaromatics in diesel oil is low, they are potentially carcinogenic and genotoxic. Due to little polyaromatics and complexity of diesel oil, soil contaminated by diesel oil is difficult to treat using common remediation technologies.
