To explore the feasibility of using a nonlinear (or anisotropic) two equation turbulence model for practical flow predictions, computations are carried out of some typical wall bounded turbulent shear flows where the anisotropic turbulent normal stresses are important. Computed flows include a turbulent boundary layer under adverse pressure gradient, a wall jet flow, and a developing turbulent flow in a square duct. The distributions of skin friction coefficient, turbulent normal stresses, and mean velocities are presented and compared with the experimental data available. It is found that the nonlinear model successfully predicts the essential features of mean and turbulent flow properties for the flows where the anisotropy of turbulent normal stresses should not be neglected.
