Macroscopic failure models were implemented to a finite element method for the progressive failure analysis of composite laminates with stress concentration. In the finite element analysis, material nonlinearity induced from the nature of damaged ply constitutive relation was accounted for by the formulation. The stiffness change of matrix cracked lamina was evaluated by utilizing shear lag analysis, and the behavior of fiber directional failure was modeled with the conception of fiber bundle failure. In comparison with the conventional post-failure analysis of composite structure, the present method can address the matrix crack density and the stress state of failed lamina more accurately. Present analysis shows good agreement with experimental results, as opposed to previous simple post-failure analysis for the stress-strain relation of flat specimen. It is expected that the present model can be extended to more complex geometry and loading conditions.-
