A cylindrical cavity-backed antenna excited by Hertzian dipoles is investigated. A Green's function approach is used to account for arbitrarily oriented dipoles. Scattered fields are expanded in terms of eigenfunctions, and boundary conditions are enforced to obtain a set of simultaneous equations. A circularly polarized antenna is fabricated, and its radiation characteristics are compared to the theory.
