A novel, miniaturized, GaAs-based bandpass filter for the 5 GHz WLAN band, using coupled lines end-shorted at their opposite sides and lumped capacitors, is proposed. The new filter has a compact size, as small as a few electrical degrees, and shows a wider stop band characteristic, greater than 35 dB up to 60 GHz. A two-stage bandpass filter with a planar structure was designed and fabricated at a center frequency of 5.5 GHz, with a chip size! of only 0.54 x 0.78 mm. The fabricated filter has been implemented using the Knowledge*on GaAs process.
