The general goal of MPEG-21 is to describe an open framework which allows the integration of all components of a delivery chain necessary to generate, use, manipulate, manage, and deliver multimedia content across a wide range of networks and devices. MPEG-21 pursuits the framework to build an infrastructure for the delivery and consumption of multimedia contents. Digital Item is the fundamental unit of distribution and transaction within the MPEG-21 framework as a whole. Digital Item is declared by MPEG-21 part 2 Digital Item Declaration (DID) and includes Digital Item Identification (DII), Intellectual Property Management and Protection (IPMP), Rights Expression Language (REL) Information, and MPEG-7 metadata and so on. Although Digital Item Processing supports architecture for consumption, manipulation, and processing of Digital Item, the architecture to process and service Digital Item in more detail application is needed in future work.
In this paper, we design the architecture for processing Digital Item and construct Digital Item service framework based on MPEG-21 in detail educational contents. We verify that the proposed architecture is useful in Digital Item service based on MPEG-21 framework. For processing Digital Item, we define clearly the role and function of each part of MPEG-21 such as DII, IPMP, REL and MPEG-7, and specify the interaction between the user and system elements as well. And the service flow of Digital Item for the educational video is defined thoroughly. Especially, by applying the concept of tool-server, we enable user to consume the summarized version of educational videos by an automatic summarization method proposed in this paper.
We implemented a system for educational video service based on several parts of MPEG-21 and MPEG-7 Multimedia Description Scheme (MDS). The proposed system supports well educational video service based on MPEG-21 multimedia framework. Also, in experiments, we verified that the processing method ...
