Dynamic UI can have several advantages compared with static UI since it is easier to make user-centered UI for each user with the approach. However, current dynamic UI approaches have several limitations. For example, it is not possible to provide appropriate UI for undefined user types or contexts. Event-based self adaptation approach, which is introduced in this paper, is a novel approach that tries to solve the challenges of current static and dynamic UI approaches. The event-based self adaptation approach does not require any extra information about the users or contexts, but use only events which can be gathered very easily. Also, by adopting an agent, the approach makes an externalization of the UI adaptation. In other words, there is no need to make intensive modifications of the internal logic of an application to adopt the approach. Among several ways of adopting dynamic UI approach, this thesis especially focuses on the dynamic menu organization. By adopting dynamic UI approach, menu categorization and ordering can be accomplished dynamically based on users’ menu selection behaviors. The most important objective of dynamic menu organization is improving performance, especially reducing menu searching time and false selection events. It is expected that many menu-driven systems can improve performance by adopting this approach.
