With the broadcasting and network convergence, IPTV which is a broadcasting service over IP network, becomes popular as a new business model. IPTV supports the user-interactive and personalized broadcasting service. Such IPTV applications can be realized over open network. The open network is the network that allows a variety of service applications to utilize the resources of network infra via open API``s which are maintained by the open network and can be called from the applications. One of the key issues in the open network is to define a set of standardized open API``s from which a variety of applications can access and utilize the network resources. The Parlay group has standardized the Parlay X APIs which define a set of simple-to-use, high-level, telecom-related Web services. However, the API``s for IPTV like broadcasting service have not been yet defined even though it is considered a killer application in the open network environment.
In this thesis, we study the service scenario for the personalized broadcasting services under the open network environments and extend the Parlay X Web service structure by defining a set of Open APIs for the personalized EPG, NDR and Target Advertisement services from the service scenarios. For these three services, we specify Open APIs based on Parlay X for open network environments. These open network environments for the personalized broadcasting services provides new business models to the network operators, reduces duplicable investment in new business by defining the roles of each service provider and makes the third party application service possible to develop the various and inventive services. We also implement a prototype system for the three personalized EPG, NDR and Target Advertisement services based on the extended Parlay X Web service structure.
