Most project-based industries such as construction, shipbuilding, and software development etc. should generate and manage project network for successful project planning. Since the generation of large-scale project networks requires a significant amount of knowledge and time, automatic generation system is a must. The system-based generation can save time, be consistent, provide accurate networks, and can enable the systematic accumulation of past experience as a firm’s knowledge asset. When the solution of a case is complex like project network and product design, the modification process is very complex and thus the minimizing modification effort is primary concern when we select the anchoring case. In many situations, full modification rules are rarely available and the cost of human’s effort of modification is the primary concern. Thus the value of Least Modification is very crucial. So we have developed the framework of Least Modification Principle. Suggesting framework has been applied to development of the office project planning system. We use 57 cases to implement and to evaluate the framework. We have compared the Optimized Level Multi Cases strategy with the Single Case strategy and the Minimum Level Multi Cases strategy. The Optimized Level Multi Cases strategy reduces 37.4% of the modification effort of the Single Case strategy and reduces 59.1% in contrast with the Minimum Level Multi Cases strategy. We also have evaluated the estimation model with the least modification. The estimation model reduced 18.8% of the modification effort and enhanced 4.9% of the success rate of network modification. It should be significant result to the knowledge acquisition and management for the modification intensive CBR application. This framework has been applied to various construction domains such as the apartment, the bridge, the office and the plant building. The proposed framework seems to be effectively applicable to other large-scale proj...eng
