dc.description.abstractNew types of soluble poly(terephthalylidene) derivatives containing tertiary amine, ether and sulfide linkages were prepared by condensation reactions. The resulting polymers were soluble in common organic solvents and could be spun-cast on glass plate coated with ITO electrode and highly transparent homogeneous thin films were obtained. The molecular weight of the polymer samples, as determined by gel permeation chromatography using polystyrene standards were larger than 10,000 $({\bar{M})w$. The chemical structures of polymers were confirmed by IR, UV-visible, and $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ NMR spectra respectively. We observed successfully the electroluminescence with the peaks at 505 - 560 nm. From the devices made of above polymers. These polymers have the strong absorption band at around 380 - 480 nm which are due to the$ π-π^*$ transition of the conjugated segments of the corresponding polymers. I - V curve showed typical rectifying diode characteristics. The electroluminescent specta of the polymers were very similar to the photoluminescent specta indicating that the origins of the light emissions in both cases are the same.eng
