dc.description.abstract | This thesis presents an actual modeling support system in the context of computer-based modeling enviornment and structured modeling approach. Computer-based modeling environment can increase the productivity and quality of model-based work through good modeling style and tools. This environment promotes the frequent use of MS/OR techniques by bringing about a more comfortable working relationship between MS/OR professionals and their constituencies. Structured modeling aims to provide a formal mathematical framework for conceiving,representing, and manipulating a wide variety of mathematical model. Structured modeling enables model-based work to be done with greater productivity and acceptance by nonspecialists. Object-oriented design concept presents a simple and concise logical abstraction of database design. In order to fully utilize the advantages of abstraction in object-oriented design concept and formal framework in structured modeling, the general absraction tool, which permits the users to specify data and model bases using object-oriented design concepts, is presented. A prototype system, named Structured Modeling Support System (SMSS), is implemented in Sun workstation environment. SMSS would help the users to design, analyze, and solve mathemetical model problems. | eng |
