The value of decision models as an integrated component of information systems is well recognized in the field of Decision Support Systems (DSSs). In most of the current information systems employed by organizations, however, decision models are still treated as black-boxes isolated from information systems. To incorporate decision models in information systems as a whole, it is necessary to have a modeling framework which views both the decision models and information systems in a unified way. In this dissertation, Integrated Modeling Framework (IMF) is proposed as a conceptual framework for integrated modeling of decision models and information systems. The framework is based on an object-oriented approach, utilizing the concepts from model management and information systems such as: multi-facet concepts, dependency graphs, event-driven modeling, and top-down approach. IMF consists of three sub models, object model, facet model, and event/process model, which provides a scheme for problem-centric and declarative representation of a system. Object model captures structural aspects of a system using object relationship diagram and object schema. Object model has a role of conceptual blackboard which is used for model integration, reuse, and sharing. Mathematical models are specified in facet model. Facet concept connects decision models with object model. Facet concept also provides flexibility for incorporating the different perspectives of users and models. Facet graphs are dependency graphs which provide abstract views of decision models. Mathematical expressions in decision models are specified declarative and index-free style. Event/process model specifies dynamics and procedural aspects of a system, which is based on event-driven and top-down approach. Event/process net, process schema and event schema are basic constructs of event/process model. Since IMF provides formal and executable specifications of a system, it is possible to carry out rigorous exec...
