With the expansion of service areas and mobile users, more efficient use of wireless resources becomes important. In order to reduce the signaling cost, a sequential paging scheme is proposed by separating a location area into several paging area such that each area is paged sequentially. Cells are grouped into a paging area by considering the mobiles existing probability at each cell.
We first describe different optimal and heuristic algorithm for sequential paging scheme. Then, we discuss the dynamic paging scheme for next generation mobile systems with delay constraints according to service characteristics. Compared to other paging methods the proposed scheme guarantees the efficiency computation time and paging cost. Computational results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed paging scheme.
