In order to improve the fuel economy and cut the automotive emissions, various studies have been conducted on the hybridization of different vehicle types. However, as most prior studies focused on hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) with automatic transmission, the developed control strategies do not consider the gear shift timing (i.e. early and late shifts), and thus, cannot be applied to HEVs employing manual transmissions such as trucks and sports cars. This study proposes a control strategy for HEVs with manual transmission, which is based on the control strategy of HEVs with automatic transmission. The engine on/off and power split control strategies were extracted based on the late and early gear shift maps.
