Ideal chemical sensing requires high sensitivity, high selectivity, and reproducibility. In order to advance from laboratory-scale sensing of well-defined standard solutions to real-life raw samples of complex chemical mixtures, state-of-the-art accuracy in high-performance analysis is crucial. In this thesis, with focus on optical and spectroscopic techniques, we present strategies to resolve the two main challenges in complex chemical mixture sensing which are target selectivity and reproducibility in sensing performance.
