Photodynamic therapy is a promising method that can solve the problems of conventional chemotherapy. Singlet oxygen generated from irradiation in the presence of photosensitizer can be used as useful tool for the medication of disease such as cancer. BOPHY, one of boron dipyrromethene derivatives, has received attention as a brand-new organic fluorophore for recent few years. Furthermore, it was revealed that substitution of heavy atoms to BOPHY results in the generation of singlet oxygen. In this dissertation, a new photosensitizer design based on the BOPHY structure has been developed and the singlet oxygen generation was observed. Copper complexes generally shows outstanding photophysical properties. Here, copper complex based on ($^{acri}$PNP) ligand was developed. The photophysical properties such as emission and redox properties. Furthermore, reactivity of ($^{acri}$PNP)Cu as photocatalyst in photo-induced coupling reaction was also investigated.
