dc.description.abstract | Barium titanate is a one of promising material in many electrical devices due to its outstanding dielectric properties. Since the dimension of the final device reached sub-millimeter size, miniaturization of the starting material is inevitable for the case of multi-layer ceramic capacitor (MLCC). As the particle size reduces toward nanoscale, size effect arises leading deterioration of the final dielectric properties. To overcome the morphological limitation from the spherical particles, we synthesized one-dimensional $BaTiO_3$ nanorods through hydrothermal reaction. By using anisotropic characteristics of 1D $BaTiO_3$ nanorods, dielectric property comparison of bulk $BaTiO_3$ with random and oriented grains was investigated. The random and oriented bulk $BaTiO_3$ was fabricated using conventional templated grain growth (TGG) method, where synthesized 1D $BaTiO_3$ nanorods were used as a seed material. X-ray diffraction patterns clearly confirms the maintenance of inplane oriented crystallography, although the microstructure of as-sintered $BaTiO_3$ shows equiaxed grains. Considering the calculated Lotgering factors and density measurement, the oriented $BaTiO_3$ performs improved dielectric property compared to random. | - |
