In this paper, a sub-array structure of a microstrip patch antennas is proposed as a phased array element to improve gain at low elevation angle for satellite communication. This subarray antenna has a radiation pattern with the conformation of two main lobes. Each 3dB beam-width coverage of beam pattern is ±17.7° to ±65.0°. The gain of the proposed phased array antenna was increased 2.67dB at theta 55°, compared to the conventional phased array antenna. The proposed antenna operates left-hand circularly polarization (LHCP) at 11.85GHz for satellite communication applications.
