Effect of the addition of polymeric dispersant to the slurry in the slot-die coating of lithium-ion battery cathode리튬 이온 전지 음극의 슬롯-다이 코팅에서 슬러리에 고분자 분산제 첨가의 영향

Slot-die coating is a prevailing coating method used in the manufacturing of lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery electrodes. The coating windows of low-viscosity fluids have been investigated extensively. However, there are few studies on the coating window of high-viscosity slurries practically used in battery manufacturing. In this study, the effect of polymeric dispersant in the cathode slurry on coating windows and the minimum coating thickness was studied by numerical simulation. By comparing the coating windows of slurries with and without polymeric dispersant, it was determined that the maximum coating speed for slurry with polymeric dispersant was higher than the slurry without polymeric dispersant. The minimum coating thickness of both cathode slurries, with polymeric dispersant $(\mu ~3 Pa \cdot s)$ and without polymeric dispersant $(\mu >350 \codt s$), was the same. The effect of the coating gap on coating windows and the minimum coating thickness was also studied. Capillary number was higher for slurry without polymeric dispersant whereas the Reynolds number was higher for the slurry with polymeric dispersant. It was also observed that the downstream meniscus was not pinned at the die lip corner for both slurries due to low static contact angle. Furthermore, by changing the coating speed with both slurries it was observed that the position of downstream meniscus remained almost constant.
