dc.description.abstract | There have been researches on pattern gain to enhance channel capacity in mobile communication environment. To obtain the pattern gain, theoretical radiation patterns and practical antenna prototypes have been proposed. However, practical pattern antennas for mobile communication system have not been proposed. Also, there have been few researches on array structure based on pattern antennas. Therefore, objective of this thesis is to propose a pattern antenna system for mobile communications and to verify the performance of the proposed system. In the first topic, we provide an algorithm to figure out theoretical pattern antennas which achieve the pattern gain effectively according to the channel condition. We propose a channel model for the pattern antenna which considers the characteristics of the mobile communication system. We verify that the proposed pattern antenna can increase the channel capacity in mobile communication system. In the second topic, it is the objective to verify the performance of the pattern antenna based array system in mobile communication environment. We propose a channel model and hybrid-beamforming algorithms for the pattern antenna based array system. We show that the proposed system can improve transmission rate in mobile communication environment. In the third topic, we provide practical pattern antennas which can obtain the pattern gain in mobile communication environment. We propose a compact 16-port pattern antenna and a 4-port pattern antenna. We verify that the proposed pattern antenna obtains pattern gain practically in the mobile communication environment. In addition, we measure transmission data rate of the proposed 4-port pattern antenna compared to that of the conventional systems so that we can verify that the pattern gain can be utilized in real environment and could be larger than the polarization gain. | - |
