This article presents a 60 GHz on-off keying (OOK) demodulator for short-range and high-speed wireless communications. An OOK demodulator consists of a wideband detector and an efficient limiting amplifier. With a gain-boosting technique, the detector has a voltage responsivity of 5,892 mV/mW and the demodulator has a measured conversion gain of 16 dB for an input power of -20 dBm at 5 Gb/s. With a fabricated test modulator module, the demodulator recovers 7 Gb/s data. With a power consumption of 19.2 mW, the demodulator exhibits an energy efficiency of 2.74 pJ/bit.
