dc.description.abstract | In the present research, spray visualization tests in a constant volume combustion chamber (CVCC) under replicated ambient conditions of stratified combustion mode were carried out in order to achieve stable stratified combustion with gasoline and n-butane. spray structure of n-butane was collapsed toward to the injector tip axis compared to that of gasoline, and the spray structure collapse became severe as injection pressure increased. Based on results of spray test in the chamber, single cylinder metal engine experiment was conducted to investigate combustion and emission characteristics of gasoline and n-butane. n-butane showed similar heat release rate (HRR) trend regardless of injection and ignition timings unlike gasoline. Particulate matter emission of n-butane was nearly zero while nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions were slightly higher than those of gasoline due to advanced combustion phase. | - |
