We describe the observation of rotation-rate-dependent beat signals from an Er3+-doped fiber ring laser that oscillates bidirectionally in multiple longitudinal modes. The polarization properties of the ring laser output are analyzed theoretically and experimentally. The lock-in reduction of the laser is demonstrated by use of a push-pull modulation scheme.
