Facile patterning methods for highly efficient organic light-emitting diodes고효율의 유기 발광 다이오드를 위한 손쉬운 패터닝 방법에 관한 연구

Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), due to their promising advantages of a simple fabrication process, light weight and flexibility, have attracted considerable attention over the last decade for use in back lighting units in full-color displays, as well as in solid-state lighting applications. In order to realize OLEDs with high power efficiency, many research groups have made a lot of effort to obtain improved light extraction efficiency and low driving voltage. Although rapid progress has been made in controlling the optical and electrical system for high power efficiency of OLEDs, their complex and expensive methods have been hindered the widespread applications. In this thesis, facile patterning methods are discussed for highly efficient OLEDs, including a solution-processible technique for the fabrication of out-coupling structures, a cross-pattering technique for the deposition of a multi-emissive layer, and soft lithography based on three-dimensional colloidal crystals for white emission from top-emitting OLEDs. In chapter 2.1, we have demonstrated the preparation of an ordered hole pattern via a simple colloidal assembly technique and a sol-gel process without the use of any special equipment to enhance light extraction from LEDs. From two-dimensional (2D) colloidal crystals, 2D TiO2 honeycomb structures were easily obtained by depositing TiOx sol solution. By applying the 2D TiO2 honeycomb structure on the backside of the glass substrate, the efficiency of a polymer LED, compared to the device without the structure, was increased without a significant change in the electroluminescence spectrum. This enhancement is attributed to the improved light extraction, which is due to the suppression of total internal reflection at the interface between the glass substrate and the air.
