This thesis introduces a finite element (FE) model for simulating the bond-slip behavior in composite beam structures. The distributions of horizontal force and slip at the slab-girder interface are obtained from the discretized form of the slip model’s governing equation and load-slip relation of the shear connectors installed along the interface. Further, the slip behavior is implemented into an FE formulation through proposed solution procedures that include an iteration method for finding a double neutral axis. Adopting the model enables the consideration of the slip behavior even in a beam element defined by just two nodes and it is unique compared with the conventional adoption of double nodes which is based on plane element with four nodes. The proposed model is verified through numerical examples as follows. The distributions of the horizontal force and slip for steel composite beams under monotonic loading conditions as obtained using the model are compared with analytical results of existing researches. Further, the load-deflection responses of concrete composite beams as obtained by the proposed model are found to accurately represent the actual structural behaviors observed in experiments and show more flexible structural behavior, when the slip effect is considered, than in the case of numerical results where full connection status is assumed. The analysis results obtained using the proposed model are also compared with the numerical results obtained by adopting the double node through correlation studies of experimental data on steel composite beams. Next, the model is extended to simulate the non-linear cyclic behavior of composite beams, and the hysteretic relations of concrete, steel, and shear connectors are reflected on the FE formulation. The analysis of steel composite beams reveals that the proposed model show satisfactory structural behavior under cyclic loading conditions, including the pinching effect by the frictional slip zone of sh...
