There is a need to develop a smart agricultural facility around city or suburban areas for securing food resources to cope with domestic energy crisis and global climate change. This study, an artificial cultivation facility controlled by a state-of-the-art information technology in a way that minimizes the energy consumption and carbon emissions is suggested. This facility is independently operable free from various climate conditions and could be installed anywhere, providing cultivation environment for various kinds of crops that can be grown with low production costs, which is the goal of developing a smart greenhouse. To achieve the purposes of this study, a multilayer planting facility harnessing both solar and geothermal energy sources with the continuous circulation of warm or chilled air and water is developed. This sustainable and renewable energy based greenhouse could effectively perform micro-climate regulation and provide successful growing environment for various types of plants. Integration of structural components such as metallic hollow pipes and columns with utility supply and circulation components is another innovative feature of the designed plant factory. Rain water coolection, modularized water tanks as the container for geothermal energy, solar reflectors combined with thermal energy recovery system are major equipments to realize a sustainable hybrid greenhouse microclimate control system with combined solar and geothermal energy sources
