A structural damage identification that exploits select feedback probing is presented. The proposed method primarily utilizes changes in the natural frequencies that are sensitive to specified feedback characteristics. The proposed method may obviate the widely perceived view: changes in the natural frequencies may serve as an indicator of the damage occurrence but not as a damage location identifiers as the natural frequency changes do not carry the geometric information of the structure. The proposed select feedback probing method measures the natural frequency changes of the structure with and without the feedback loop in such a way the damage locations can be identified.
