dc.description.abstract | One of the prominent features in metal forming analysis using the Lagrangian finite element method is that the initial simple workpiece geometry becomes distorted by material flow, causing mesh degeneration from locally concentrated deformations, and thus remeshing is needed to perform a continuous analysis. The remeshing process consists of three steps, namely, determining when remeshing is required, executing automatic mesh generation, and mapping of physical variables from the old mesh system to the newly generated one. In particular, the automatic mesh generation process may be considered the most important step in remeshing, because the newly generated mesh system affects the global accuracy and running time of the analysis. Thus, in the present investigation, a quadrilateral automatic mesh generator based on the initial boundary node generation algorithm and the paving method available in the literature was developed and its performance was investigated in the sense of robustness by applying for various simple geometries. Also, in order to determine the applicability of the mesh generator for remeshing, analyses of simple upsetting and T-shape SMC compression molding analyses, which require remeshing, were carried out. From this study, it was found out that the developed mesh generator can be used successfully for automatic mesh generation in the remeshing process. | - |
