A simple technique for monitoring the optical frequencies of WDM signals using pilot tones and an arrayed-waveguide grating is presented, Results confirm that optical frequencies of WDM signals were monitored with an accuracy better than +/-2 GHz. In addition, unlike the other pilot tone based monitoring techniques. the proposed technique was not sensitive to the cross-gain modulation of EDFAs.
