Fe3Al based iron aluminide was tested under supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) conditions to explore its possible use as a reactor material for hydrothermal processes. Degradation resistance of the material were evaluated in distilled water at 450 degrees C and 300 atm in a closed reactor. The results of the kinetics studies, metallographic observations as well as phase and chemical analysis of the corrosion products indicated limited applicability of iron aluminide in SCWO conditions.
