Solutions of the oscillatory Stokes equation for arbitrary motions of a circular disk parallel to an infinite plane wall are obtained. Four elementary motions are studied by means of dual integral equations: rotation about the symmetric axis, broadside translation, rotation about a diameter, edgewise translation. The integral equations are solved numerically for the force and torque exerted on the disk. The effects of the presence of plane wall on the force and torque are discussed. The instantaneous steamlines are also presented. (C) 2003 Published by The Japan Society of Fluid Mechanics and Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
