Generation of a passively Q-switched mode-locked pulse from a laser diode pumped Nd : YAG laser

A passively Q-switched, mode-locked pulse was generated from a laser diode pumped Nd:YAG laser. The passive Q-switching was performed by using a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber. The mode-locked pulse inside the Q-switched pulse was obtained by using a nonlinear mirror mode-locking without any tight focusing geometry. With a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber and a nonlinear mirror mode locking method, a mode-locked pulse with a pulse width of less than 600 ps and a repetition rate of 714 MHz was obtained inside a Q-switched pulse envelope with a temporal duration of 80 ns and a repetition rate of about 2 kHz.
