Tactile displays don``t disturb other people and transfer the information secretly by directly contacting with person``s body. Tactile letter recognition means that the users recognize the ordinary language conveyed on the skin surface using such tactile displays. This thesis proposes stimulus presentation of drawing type for tactile letter recognition. It is the type that is drawing the line directly with pen to the skin instead of dot stimulus of array type in order to convey the letter. This thesis built the prototype using 3 stepping motors consisting three-axis for drawing type tactile presentation. The tracing mode was a good at recognition rate of the letters averagely than static mode in tactile letter recognition. But it was still hard to recognize special letters having same number of stroke or similar stroke style, because touch sensory is dull of localization and perception of stimulus. To improve recognition rate for confused letters, this thesis redesigns stroke patterns to a new sequence pattern having less stroke number and unique pattern. The experiment showed that stimulus presentation of drawing type can improve the accuracy of the tactile letter recognition. And new tactile pattern proved that reduction of the number of strokes and originality of pattern can improve the accuracy of recognition.
