For future wireless multimedia networks, the increases of coverage, capacity and reliability are required in the next-generation communication systems. In addition, the chronic underutilization of licensed spectrum is also pointed out. Recently, convergence technologies have been suggested to answer both challenging issues [1] [2]. Hence, we study the hybrid system that exploits peer-to-peer (P2P) aspect in OFDMA-based (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) cellular system. With the hybrid system, beneficial performance gains can be achieved, and the spectrum underutilization can be improved by the spatial reuse. In this thesis, we focus on the multiuser spectrum sharing problem. With the aid of cellular base station (BS), P2P system can utilize licensed spectrum simultaneously. In this scenario, QoS (Quality of Service) of the cellular system should be guaranteed. To solve this problem, we formulate an optimization problem for the sum-rate maximization of the hybrid system, and analyze the problem by using mathematical tools. From analytical results, we propose heuristic algorithms to achieve sub-optimal solutions. First, we investigate enhanced water-filling algorithm (EWFA) considering remaining power reallocation. Second, we propose OTP-based (optimal transmission power obtained by EWFA) and IATP-based (interference allowable transmission power) subchannel allocation algorithms. Our key idea of the proposed subchannel allocation algorithms is the incorporation of transmission power into the subchannel allocation metric as a weighted factor. Then, we consider practical implementation issues, and evaluate the system performance in realistic simulation environments. We show that our heuristic algorithms achieve near-optimal performance with respect to the sum-rate capacity.
