Two main subjects are studied in this thesis. In the first part, we study channels with channel state information. We form a new mixed state channel model that is motivated by multiuser fading channels. The channel model has an additive state that is non-causally known at the transmitter and a fading state which is only known at the receiver. For this model we show some achievable rates and propose a transmitter receiver structure that may be implemented in practice. Asymptotic performance and behavior with respect to signal to noise ratio (SNR), interference to noise ration (INR), channel mean and variance are analyzed and computer simulation examples are shown. In the second part we study achievable rate regions for the vector broadcast channel with perfect channel state information at the receiver (CSIR) but partial channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT).We show achievable regions, which are a subregion of Cover - van der Meulen - Hajek - Pursley (CMHP)’s region and a subregion of Marton’s region. They are based on the coding schemes proposed on the first part of the thesis. We compare the proposed schemes over TDMA and the perfect CSIT upperbound using numerical simulations.
